Ongoing support for waste management system

Legacy System Support Waste Management Company 635X500
About the project

The work behind the outcome.

A global waste management company chose to optimise operations with PSP’s legacy system modernisation and support, making sure that Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 remained a reliable and secure component of their operations.

01

Client Overview

A leading global waste management company relies on a custom-built internal system developed in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 to manage its Weighbridge stations across multiple sites. This system is critical for day-to-day operations, enabling staff to log weights, handle invoices, manage customers and stock and maintain site information. Additionally, the platform records digital signatures to streamline transaction records. Over the past 5 years, the system has been continuously enhanced to adapt to evolving business requirements. However, maintaining its performance and security has become increasingly challenging due to its legacy nature.

02

Challenge

The company’s legacy system, built on the outdated Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 platform, had grown complex as new features were added to meet business demands. As a result, some parts of the code had become unwieldy and difficult to optimise, leading to occasional performance issues and making ongoing maintenance more complex. The client required a trusted partner to provide timely and reliable support, ensuring that any system defects were diagnosed and resolved within agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA) times. In addition, they needed proactive updates and security patches to keep the system stable and secure, as well as on-site and remote support to address technical challenges whenever necessary.

03

Solution

PSP provided comprehensive support and maintenance for a client's Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 system, ensuring its stability and functionality. A dedicated two-developer team offered reactive support through an online helpdesk, ensuring swift issue resolution within SLA times. PSP also took a proactive approach by applying regular updates and security patches, conducting periodic reviews for optimisation, and enhancing system performance to meet business needs without compromising reliability or security.  This combination of reactive and proactive support provided the client with a stable and secure system that remained aligned with their operational requirements.

04

Results

By partnering with PSP, the waste management company achieved greater operational stability and reduced the frequency and impact of system disruptions at their Weighbridge stations. The fast and efficient handling of defects and technical issues ensured smooth day-to-day operations, with fewer delays and minimal downtime. The system’s overall security and performance were enhanced through regular updates and maintenance, reducing the risk of vulnerabilities and providing the client with confidence in the reliability of their legacy system.

The support structure put in place by PSP gave the client peace of mind, knowing that any issues would be addressed quickly and effectively.

Outcome

This project demonstrates PSP’s ability to extend the lifespan and functionality of legacy systems, helping organisations maximise the value of their existing technology.

PSP’s ongoing support and maintenance for the global waste management company’s legacy system highlight our expertise in managing and optimising complex, ageing platforms. Through proactive updates, timely issue resolution and dedicated support, PSP ensured that the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 system remained a reliable and secure component of the client’s operations.
