Legacy System Support and Modernisation for Furncare


Furncare is a manufacturer of high-quality care home furniture. They approached PSP and asked us to support and upgrade their existing ERP system.

Requirements


The client approached PSP when their custom-made ERP system was left unsupported. They needed to hire a developer with knowledge of both new and old code to keep their legacy system performing reliably and update it in line with modern technology.

Solution


Furncare outsourced an agile developer who worked with the client for two days per week. During those contracted days, we maintained and supported their existing legacy system, while helping them develop a new system.

We improved the legacy system in many ways, including:

  • Faster performance
  • Improved user interface
  • Tougher security
  • Integrated with third-party systems
  • Fixed bugs and issues to keep the system running

To ensure we could pass knowledge of the system to colleagues and the client, we documented everything we knew about the system in our Online Academy. This meant, that if the developer was on leave or needed additional resources, there was always someone in the development team who understood their system if they were ever needed.

Benefits


PSP modernised the system’s existing code so the system could perform faster and integrate with newer technologies. Once the updates were complete, we continues supporting the client through a managed support service, which ran alongside a web development project where one of our Magento-certified developers completed the development of their new e-commerce store.
